Castro Valley Library Naming & Sponsorship Opportunities
The new Castro Valley Library will be one of the most important public buildings in the region. It will be a focal point of considerable accomplishment, pride and attention, rewarding this campaign's supporters for decades to come. The building will be highly functional and aesthetically pleasing. An appealing layout of services will encourage exploration and ongoing usage.
The Campaign for the Castro Valley Library provides opportunities for individuals or organizations to associate their names with this facility. Through their multi-year pledges or outright gifts, supporters can name specific rooms, lobbies, offices and other facilities. They can also underwrite vital programs and central collections.
Such charitable associations celebrate philanthropic leadership by conferring distinctive, ongoing recognition on some of Castro Valley's most important assets: our committed and generous citizenry and businesses.
Permanent Acknowledgement
Prominent founding supporters may elect to receive permanent, on-site acknowledgement of their commitment:
A central naming wall will honor supporters' deep generosity and commitment in a manner consistent with the library's mission of community service.
Localized naming plaques or signage will reflect key supporters' wishes to associate their names with particular rooms, spaces, equipment, functions or collections.
In addition, a widely distributed summary publication will publicize what charitable leadership has made possible.
For your Consideration
For their new library, Castro Valley residents have asked for an array of basic services: checking out books and movies, browsing newspapers and magazines, and tapping into our staff's research and information skills. They also want larger and more diverse collections, comfortable spaces for quiet study and casual reading, and engaging programs. Parents want their children to learn in an inviting, supervised and communal environment. In fact, they have asked the library to partner with our schools, bringing added value to a Castro Valley education.
But there's more. Residents want this library to anchor the community's emerging core. They have asked for cultural programming that reflects our burgeoning ethnic and cultural fabric. They have asked for a café and revolving art exhibitions.
These diverse requirements reflect the library as community center, which the library will accommodate with a variety of spaces. They result in the generous scale and feeling, and broad functionally, of this new library, and in several efficient and stylish spaces that invite naming.
New Castro Valley Library
Sponsor the Entire Facility - $1,500,000
Create a prominent and lasting legacy for a family member, community leader, or organization by providing a significant sponsorship for the entire new library facility. For such a visionary gift, the County will work closely with the donor in decisions about appropriate naming, recognition, and signage that does justice to donor intent, as well as to the County and the County Library System.
Realization of a large sponsorship for the entire new Castro Valley Library will enable additional purchases of library collections, equipment, and furniture that will make the new facility truly a premier community lardmark that serves library patrons comfortably and efficiently.
Automated Sorting Machine - $500,000
The key to a high volume modern library "sorting and returns" area is an automated circulation sorting machine, and associated equipment. Such a machine, that basically checks in and sorts returned library materials, is planned for the new Castro Valley Library. An automated sorting machine improves service for library patrons and simplifies work for library staff by automating material handling tasks, such as sorting and shelving. By automating time-consuming return processes, library staff members are available to accomplish more patron service-oriented tasks.
The sponsor of this important machine will be recognized specifically on the Honor Wall, near the Library entrance, on check-out receipts, and also in publications and announcements. Funding this state-of-the art machine is integral to making the new Castro Valley Library a modern and customer oriented public facility.
Multipurpose Education Center - $250,000
Or: Separate sponsorships available for the two divided spaces, as described below - Each $125,000
Or: Homework Assistance Center, Computer Learning Center, Family Literacy Center and Career Center - Each $50,000
While largely an open and expansive space, the library concentrates special resources in the Multipurpose Education Center, a dedicated room part of the library's innovative "joint-use agreement" with the Castro Valley Unified School District. The Multipurpose Education Center functions as the Library's Homework Assistance Center, Computer Learning Center, Family Literacy Center, Career Center, and will be used for special programs and classes.
A movable wall partition will enable the Multipurpose Education Center to be divided into two equal spaces. Functions and presentations, as required, will be scheduled to take place in the Center as a whole or in the partitioned spaces.
In the Multipurpose Education Center, library and school staff will collaborate on a continuum of programs that engage students with their formal educations and make college increasingly accessible, to include SAT preparation.
The room will be equipped with 30 computers. "English as a Second Language" and family literacy classes will be supported by special software. A hardware product called AlphaSmart will enable learning-disabled students to type homework, email and term papers. The room will be equipped with wireless technology, enabling the computer equipment to be used in a wide variety of configurations in the room.
When not filled with students, Multipurpose Education Center programs will expand other residents' awareness of, and readiness for, continuing education and college. For the benefit of our youngest citizens, library staff and school personnel - not to mention parent partners - will collaborate on weekend and evening programs for families with K-12 students in the district.
Health & Wellness Center - $250,000
The Health and Wellness Center concept, valued as $250,000, is one that we look forward to further developing in collaboration with the Sponsor so that it meets expectations and takes full advantage of the highly visible public arena the new Library represents. What is shown below is a beginning. Fortunately, we are still at the interior design stage where we can collaborate with the designated staff representative from the Sponsor and develop the Health and Wellness Center to meet our mutual dreams and desires. The Health & Wellness Center concept:
Well-defined and visible center within the Library, located with the health and wellness resources of the library collection: Library Call Numbers 610-618.
Signage and labeling, visible to library patrons, to recognize the Sponsor. The Health and Wellness Center will be named for the Sponsor. Maximum opportunity for operational visibility will be utilized.
Basic components: health and wellness collection, computer work station, comfortable seating and tables, and shelving for display and handout materials. Approximate 400 square feet (20' X 20') will be dedicated for this center.
Extensive and current health and wellness collections, developed in consultation with Sponsor representatives. Multiple formats and languages that appeal to a diverse community.
Space available to display public information program resources from the sponsor, as well as a direct link (if available) to any Sponsor online health library/information and other online resources.
